Orange County Modern Dance Company Premieres New Full-Length Work

Orange County, CA, July 10, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Emerging Orange County nonprofit dance company, Embark Dance Theatre (EDT) will present its first full-length show, “lost/FIND” at the Forum Theatre at Yorba Linda High School on July 31st at 8 p.m. After performing shorter selections at festivals and community events around Orange County for the past two years, EDT is excited to present an hour’s length narrative dance piece that illustrates the breakdown of routine in the exploration of a new chapter. The show features athletic, modern dance movement from the company’s five members and two directors, as well as originally composed music by Isaiah Castro.

“We want to give back to the community and expand our audience,” said EDT Artistic Director Kelsey Jenson. “Hopefully this shows that we are ready to create.”

Aiming to create a platform for modern dance in Orange County, Embark plans to use the “lost/FIND” show as a way for students, young artists, and non-dancers in the community to connect and learn about professional concert dance. The night before the premiere, EDT will perform a free show for an audience made up of dancers from local high schools and host a question and answer session. Through this, Embark hopes to make modern dance accessible and relevant in Orange County and grow support and interest in the art form.

“Artists in our dance community seem to move out of Orange County in order to feel legitimate in the dance world, but since we have the talent and the resources here, why not cultivate it?” said Executive Director Amy Tabback.

The upcoming show is an entirely new program choreographed by Jenson and Tabback in collaboration with their dancers. The themes of searching and discovery are revealed through a series of solos, duets, and ensemble pieces that are energetically charged with a mixture of syncopated fluidity and dynamic partnering.

In conjunction with the opening of “lost/FIND,” Embark is hosting a four-day summer intensive from July 30-August 2 that will introduce participants to the movement style and technique used in the company’s repertoire. Additionally, students from San Juan Hills High School will perform site specific choreography in the quad outside the theater as pre-show entertainment. With education as a main statute of EDT, it was important that the the dance community be a part of the “lost/FIND” premiere in a physical way.
