Chicago, IL, December 03, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Nawal Mesrour, 27, was born in the US, to Moroccan parents. She was raised in southern Spain and visits Morocco regularly. Having spent a substantial amount of time living in three very different societies, the intermingling of cultures has always felt natural and genuine to Nawal. "I've always felt inspired to share my personal understanding and experiences," Nawal explains, "and it is precisely this inspiration that has fueled much of my enthusiasm behind MoraCo Imports." Proof of this can be found in the store’s name. In Spain, the word “Mora” is the word used to refer to a Moroccan woman, and it serves as a symbol of the company’s philosophy of embracing cultural fusion. MoraCo Imports provides unique home accent pieces that are all handmade and hand-assembled by craftsmen in Morocco.
Nawal moved to New York City in 1999, where she spent 8 years. She found the cultural diversity invigorating, and it was there, in her tiny, overpriced apartment that she began envisioning her dream job. "Souks (marketplaces) in Morocco are so beautiful and visually stimulating," Nawal says, "but they tend to be overcrowded with different kinds of items. I knew that to appeal to US buyers, I needed to focus on something specific, so I chose home decor pieces. Items that anyone could use to accent rooms in their home." It is becoming increasingly common to see Moroccan (style) light fixtures and other adornments in elegant and fashionable businesses. Why not bring a touch of the exotic home?
"My life has been based on the mingling and the fusion of very different cultures and customs. I have come to not only accept this diversity but to sincerely want to share it with others, in an effort to bring us closer together as the human community that we are," says Nawal.
