College Utilizes Crowd Funding to Help Dropouts Finally Finish High School

Modesto, CA, July 19, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Community Business is constructing a program to assist adults who never received their high school diplomas. This project will provide them credit for the units they already have and allow them to complete their missing units and graduate through a local high school. In order to kick start the program, the college is raising funds through the IndieGoGo crowdfunding website. The school is providing some innovative crowdfunding perks for those who participate.

The school hopes to get the word out with a motto of “It’s NEVER too late to get an education.”

The goals of the crowdfunding project are to raise the funds necessary to continue this successful project, which started as a pilot project in 2014. The local newspaper and one local bank have offered their services if the project is successful. This training program is provided to the recipients at no cost except a request to “pay it forward” by contributing once they obtain employment. The college is exploring incorporating a mentorship to local primary school students as an additional way for participants to “pay it forward.”

This IndieGoGo project is a community service program the college designed to replace state-funding that has disappeared since the economic downturn and its associated budget cuts.

Putting the Crowd in Crowdfunding
As with all crowdfunding projects, the “Master The Mind” project relies on the combined efforts of individuals who contribute to the project through the project’s website. Little contributions by a lot of people can make a big difference. For their support, the contributor receives a thank you perk.

The Perks
Contributors receive a customized perk for their level of participation. This project offers graduate teddy bears, college T-shirts, rubber ducks and other rewards for participating.

Perhaps the most prized perk for this project is to contribute a “Power Word of the Day” which is nominated by the contributor (subject to final approval by Community Business College’s word-meister) and the word is posted in the morning and used throughout the college’s classes by students and staff.

For those who can contribute $5, they will have their name forever immortalized in an epic poem of the saga of the crowd funding project.

Dan Guerra, the school’s director, “This project fits in with our school’s mission to help those who are less fortunate and to help bridge the scholastic achievement gap. At the conclusion of the project, a report will be developed and offered as an open-source diagram on how to put together training for unemployed adults.”

The school has set its fundraising goal at $38,000 to continue the project throughout the rest of 2015.
