Shining Light on the People and History Behind San Francisco
In her two upcoming books, Heather Jacks explores the quirky culture in the Bay Area.
San Francisco, CA, July 30, 2015 --(PR.com)-- The noted author Heather Jacks has announced that she is currently working on two different coffee table books that are designed to showcase and preserve unique pieces of San Francisco’s history. In her first book, "The Noise Beneath the Apple®," Jacks explored and celebrated the spirit of street performance within New York City. Her book also won the ‘Book of the Year Award’ in the Performing Arts & Media category.
For one of her upcoming books, Jacks has drawn inspiration from "The Noise Beneath the Apple®" and will showcase 25 street performers within the Bay Area including San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, Santa Cruz, and Napa Valley. Similar to the previous version, the new book will include film, music, stories, and photos.
Her second book explores the story behind the San Francisco Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a leading order of queer nuns who began in 1979 and have turned into an international activist and charity organization. The Sisters continue to devote their lives to community service, human rights, and society outreach. Jacks believes they are an often misunderstood but integral part of San Francisco culture.
“I hope that these projects enable cultural preservation,” said Jacks. “Each time we lose a piece of our culture, whether it is through economics, legislation, or gentrification; we lose a piece of our humanity.”
To offset some of the costs associated with producing her two new books, Jacks will be hosting a fundraising launch party which will include food, drinks, live music, raffles, a photo booth and more. During the event, Jacks will launch her online crowdfunding campaign. It will take place at Cafe Flore, 2298 Market Street, on the corner of Market and Castro Street in San Francisco from 7:00pm to 11:00pm on Wednesday October 14, 2015.
