Series Featuring Inspector Lestrade Descendant Introduces New Generation of Fans to Sherlock Holmes
Simi Valley, CA, July 29, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Master sleuth Sherlock Holmes may have a found a brand new fan base with the debut of Paula Berinstein’s Amanda Lester and the Pink Sugar Conspiracy, the first title in her Amanda Lester, Detective line. Set in England’s Lake District, the series revolves around a twelve-year-old girl, Amanda Lester, who is forced to attend a super-secret school for the descendants of famous detectives, despite her desire to pursue filmmaking. Adding to the heroine’s pre-teenage angst is the fact that she is ashamed of her famous ancestor, bumbling Scotland Yard Inspector G. Lestrade.

Amanda Lester comes from a long line of crime fighters. Her father is a district attorney, her mother is a famous crime novelist, and her great-great-something-or-other is Scotland Yard Inspector G. Lestrade, who often worked on the same cases as Sherlock Holmes. But Amanda doesn’t want to go into the family business. She would rather focus on making films. Too bad her parents are sending her to Legatum Continuatum, a secret school for the descendants of famous detectives in Lake Windermere, England.
Amanda dreads the move from Los Angeles to the UK and the thought of attending the school. But once there she meets Nick Muffet, a charismatic fellow student, and decides that there might be hope after all. That hope is quickly dashed, however, by the strict and grueling curriculum and the announcement of a project involving an investigation of . . . what? The students are to write a one hundred-page paper but are not told what they will be investigating! In addition, strange things keep happening: there’s an explosion in the garage, the kids find spots of blood around the school, and an odd pink powder appears in strange places. Could these weird happenings be part of the class project, or is something else—a real crime, perhaps—taking place?
Amanda Lester and the Pink Sugar Conspiracy is the first in the Amanda Lester, Detective series, offering fans an updated heroine: an independent, smart, and sassy young protagonist who finds herself embracing her destiny as a detective despite herself. The supporting characters include a blind girl, a geek, and a priggish boy who is a thorn in Amanda’s side, not to mention a descendant of Holmes’s nemesis, Professor Moriarty. Their interactions reflect many struggles and realities young readers will relate to.
