Tucson, AZ, July 31, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Nature illustrator and writer Beth Surdut listens to ravens and has paddled amidst alligators in wild and scenic places, but knows that true adventure can be found just outside your window. In her new illustrated radio series The Art of Paying Attention, produced by Mark McLemore, Surdut features intricate drawings and personal interactions with desert dwellers.

Hear about hidden rabbit warrens, stinkbug mating habits, angry hawks, and more on Arizona Spotlight, NPR 89.1 on Fridays and Saturdays. Audio and visuals can be accessed on the web anytime at Arizona Public Media’s website. https://radio.azpm.org/s/32467-the-art-of-paying-attention-the-rabbit-warren/

With her finely-detailed drawings and true stories, Beth Surdut, winner of the 2013 Tucson Festival of Books Literary Award for Nonfiction, invites you to pay attention to the spirited critters that crawl, fly, and skitter around your neighborhood.

“Drawing each creature by hand demands that I pay close attention to detail and nuance. As a result, people tend to take time to look closely at my artwork and read the accompanying stories, as if examining a puzzle to see what they can find. Telling about a true encounter prompts people to share their own stories with me. Paying attention brings care, care brings love; love engenders protection,” says Surdut.
