Opened in fall of 1949, Cameron Village announces its first Founder's Day Celebration to be held on Friday evening, September 18, 2015. Raleigh, NC, August 03, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Cameron Village announces the first Founder’s Day celebration to be held on Friday evening, September 18, 2015. 1949 may not seem like an exciting year at first, but it was the year of some remarkable events: the Soviet Union tested its first atomic bomb; Apartheid was made the official Policy in South Africa; the NBA National Basketball Association (NBA) came into being; and Cameron Village opened.

The evening will feature an outdoor movie presentation, food and beverage options and some throwback surprises. “We want to celebrate the Village heritage and host an event that will appeal to our older customers who share that history,” said Pat Boyle, Executive Director of the Cameron Village Merchant Association.

The first movie night will be held in the Woodburn Rd. parking area near the large canvas—our drive-in movie screen for the evening. The presentation that night is All the King’s Men, winner of the 1949 Oscar for best picture and based on the 1946 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Robert Penn Warren (Running Time: 109 Minutes). The movie is provided free of charge. The public is invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets and select their personal viewing space. Dinner options will be available from Village restaurants and coolers are allowed; however, no alcohol is allowed to be brought in, no glass containers are allowed and personal coolers are subject to inspection.

Cameron Village opened in the fall of 1949, the first mixed use development in Eastern North Carolina. A movie theater was part of the original Village development, a surprise to many of today’s Village patrons. The lease was signed before the shopping center opened, although the Consolidated Theaters movie house did not actually show its first film until 1951.
