Holiday Shipping Advice: Freight Service May be Easier

Wayne, PA, December 06, 2007 --(PR.com)-- The words holiday and freight don’t seem to go together. Most people when they hear the word freight think of trains or large containers. Princeton University’s wordnet (http://wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn) defines freight as “transporting goods commercially at rates cheaper than express rates.” Freight can also be defined as anything larger than a parcel. Freight can be boxes, crates, furniture, even a Christmas tree.

According to Christopher Smith, president of Transit Systems, Inc. (www.transitsystems.com), a freight carrier, “Once people understand what the word freight actually means, they will be more inclined to ship items using a freight carrier.” According to Smith there are 5 occasions when freight shipping should be used during the holidays:

1 - Sending lots of parcels to one destination (grandparents sending gifts to children and grandchildren in another state). Avoid the stress of packing lots of separate parcels. Condense everything in one large box and sent it by freight service.

2 - Buying a large item on an auction site for the holidays and need to ship it long distance. A freight carrier will pick up a large item that is boxed or crated at the seller’s residence or business and ship it long distance for a very reasonable price.

3 - Traveling to a holiday destination. There are presents, clothes, baby toys, etc. that need to be packed. With tighter airline restrictions these items either need to be checked (with that there is a chance they may be lost), or they can be shoved into a carry on bag (with that there is a risk of breakage). If driving, don’t cram the car with luggage and presents. Pack presents, luggage and everything else in a box or boxes and call a freight carrier. They will pick up the items and ship them to your holiday destination.

4 – Shipping items that must get there quickly. Freight carriers offer time-sensitive service, just like parcel shippers. If items need to arrive at a destination quickly, contact a freight carrier.

5 – Shipping items that are large and valuable. These items should be shipped by air freight. Air freight is fast and will make sure that valuable items will arrive safely.
