Napa Valley Poop Patrol Co-Sponsors Alston Park Cleanup

Napa, CA, August 05, 2015 --(PR.com)-- On July 25, 2015, Napa Valley Poop Patrol and the Napa Valley Resource Conservation District hosted a “Dog Days of Summer” event. The purpose of the event was to educate the public about the environmental and health impacts of dog waste. Dog owners were encouraged to consistently pick up their dog’s waste.

Tables were setup at Alston Park entry, just outside the Canine Commons, an enclosure for off-leash pups. Napa Valley Resource Conservation District’s Eric McKee provided dog waste bag dispensers to dog owners. Information cards were attached about the importance of cleaning up their dog’s waste.

At the Napa Valley Poop Patrol table, dog owners were offered many “freebies” such as collars, leashes and dog bowls. Ten dollar raffle tickets were sold to help raise money for Napa Humane Society. Over seven hundred dollars was raised, and three winners were randomly selected to win a BarkBox. BarkBox is a subscription based service that delivers a box full of dog treats and toys straight to the dog’s home each month. The company generously donated three BarkBoxes for the event.

As temperatures soured, Volunteers worked for hours picking up dog waste and trash throughout the park, and spreading wood chips in the Canine Commons. Over 250 lbs. of dog waste was collected and dozens of large piles of wood chips were leveled with rakes and shovels.

Stacey Lloyd, co-owner of Napa Valley Poop Patrol, stated, “When Eric McKee from Napa Valley Resource Conservation District contacted me to partner with the organization, I was elated! Our mission is similar. We care about the environment and want to educate the public about the detrimental effects of dog waste on our health, the environment and our pets.”

Napa Valley Poop Patrol held a raffle to show support of the Napa Humane Society. The organization offers low-cost services, such as spaying, neutering, vaccinations and microchipping to pet owners in the Napa Valley. Their efforts reduce the pet population, encourage pet health maintenance and aid in the recovery of lost pets. Funds donated to Napa Humane Society are used to provide these services to the public at affordable costs so lower income families can maintain the health of their pets.
