CBL Data Recovery Issues Warning for Businesses to Protect Data Against Severe Summer Heat and Storms

IT specialist CBL Data Recovery issues a formal warning to business owners to protect their data from loss and corruption this summer as temperatures spike and storms roll in.

Atlanta, GA, August 06, 2015 --(PR.com)-- In light of the severe heat and seasonal storms rolling in for the summer, data specialist CBL Data Recovery (http://www.cbldatarecovery.com) has published a serious warning to business owners to protect their equipment against data loss. The company advises managers on how to prepare equipment for destructive weather conditions to prevent damage and subsequent data corruption. CBL additionally offers its expertise on what an owner should do to increase the chances of data recovery in case water damage does occur.

Since overheating can cause computer drives to experience failure, the company instructs computers be maintained in a cool, dry area within a temperature-regulated room. Especially since today’s high processing speeds have increased computers’ power usage, there’s an even greater risk of equipment overheating if not maintained in an air-conditioned space.

To protect against summer storms, CBL recommends that companies utilize a surge protector rather than plug computer cables directly into an electrical outlet to mitigate any power surges or spikes that could occur. In addition to a surge protector, an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) battery backup provides emergency power to a load during outages from the main power source to ensure business continuity.

For offices located in high-risk areas vulnerable to heavy storms and flooding, the data recovery specialist suggests that critical equipment and power cables be kept at a reasonable height off of the ground.

While all of these suggestions help reduce the risk loss and destruction, there is still a chance for water damage and/or computer failure to occur. In order to prevent the loss of valuable files and information in case of an incident, CBL strongly recommends that businesses backup their data to a server secured at an offsite location, i.e. a place where it wouldn’t be subject to the same conditions as the main server. Cloud storage could also provide an additional source of data backup but comes with its share of risks and pitfalls as well.

Flood victims coping with the result of water damage should remove the damaged hard drive, place it in an airtight plastic bag, pad and pack it tightly to prevent movement, and ship the package to CBL for a free evaluation.
