Anthropology of Religion Course Begins at NSC
Oswestry, United Kingdom, August 07, 2015 --(PR.com)-- A new part time Anthropology of Religion course will be starting at North Shropshire College’s (NSC) Oswestry Campus in September; the new course is intended as a beginner’s introduction to the anthropology of religion. The new course will introduce students to the key themes, theories and approaches in the anthropology of religion. By the end, students will know what the anthropology of religion is, how religion is studied by anthropologists and will have an awareness of the major anthropological theories of religion.
The course is five weeks long and covers many areas including what anthropology is and what the anthropology of religion is; theories of religion; symbols and cosmology; ritual and performance and experience and ontology. The final session concludes at the cutting-edge of contemporary anthropological theorising with the so-called ‘ontological turn.’ Should anthropologists be concerned with thinking about whether the beliefs of their informants are true, or is this a question best left alone?
The Anthropology of Religion Course will begin Tuesday 15th September at NSC’s Oswestry Campus from 7.00pm to 9.00pm. For more information about this course or other part-time courses at NSC or to apply, please go to www.nsc.ac.uk or call Oswestry Campus Reception on 01691 688000.
