Narragansett, RI, August 08, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Mark Occhilupo, affectionately called Occy, is scheduled to make an appearance at Warm Winds in Narragansett Rhode Island this 15th of August at 4pm to 6pm. The visit is made possible by Billabong as part of its East Coast Tour. Details are available at http://www.warmwinds.com/occy-is-coming-to-warm-winds-for-the-billabong-east-coast-tour/.
Occy is a legend in the surfing world. He’s known for his cocky and gung-ho personality in and out of the surf. His calling card was his backhand surfing that was made possible due to his aggressive and powerful nature. He was the superhero of the surf industry during the peak of his rivalry with American surfing deity, Tom Curren.
Part of his legend is due to his ups and downs as a surfer and as a person. He was in a battle against depression and lost his passion for surfing. He ballooned to 245 pounds. He spent a considerable amount of time away from the industry. But as they say, it’s how you recover from the down times that matters.
The time that he spent away from the surf gave him time to think. Fortunately, he decided to give it another go. He lost 75 pounds, regained the dangerous form he’s known for, and made a comeback.
He competed for over two decades with a lot of impressive wins in his resume. However, his most impressive win happened during his comeback. It was in 1999 when he stunned the world by winning the world title at the advanced age of 33. Up until his retirement, he was dominating surfers half his age.
Obviously, Occy’s career is an interesting and productive one. Now, you have the chance to meet the legend himself. Warm Winds will play host to the Billabong East Coast Tour. From 4pm to 6pm on August 15, you’ll get the chance to meet and greet Mark Occhilupo. There will also be a signing session.
