Planners from Toronto and Vancouver Win Distinguished Global Financial Planning Awards
Jason Pereira, MBA, CFA, CFP®, FCSI, CIWM, PFP, FMA, a senior financial consultant for Woodgate Financial, IPC Investment Corporation in Toronto was recently selected as the first place winner of the 2015 Global Financial Planning Awards for the Americas region. Jason will receive an all-expenses paid trip to the Financial Planning Association’s (FPA) annual conference to be held in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
Toronto, Canada, August 12, 2015 --(PR.com)-- “I am honoured and humbled to have been named as this years winner of the PlanPlus Global Financial Planing Americas Region Award” said Jason. “I was initially drawn to the contest as a way to test both my personal planning skills and the process that we have been building at my firm for several years on a world stage, and hopefully extract additional learnings from the experience.”
“What I found most appealing about the awards process is that the submissions were based on real life cases that the contestants had worked in their own practices. By going this route instead of simply giving everyone a hypothetical case to work on, the judges were basing their decisions on actual challenges put forth by real clients and recognition of the quality or real world advice and client success. I was also appreciative that the judges understood that planning, especially in complex cases, does not fit into a simple checklist of criteria and steps. The judges allowed me to present a case that was in many ways unconventional, presented unique challenges and had evolved dramatically over the course of three years. Instead of having me present as per a set checklist, I was able to paint a picture of the situation, elaborate on the background and evolution of the case and then deliver the planning results with greater context. The competition, process, flexibility and questions asked by the judges showed me that this organization cared most about real solutions provided to real people and that makes me even more proud and honoured to be chosen as this years winner.”
“I would encourage any planner looking to demonstrate their abilities on a world wide stage to participate in this competition. It is a rewarding experience that reinforces the hard work we do in servicing our clients and their families.”
“We are truly excited to see the depth and breadth of our competition grow each year” said Global Awards Chair, John Page. “Our winners have produced extraordinary financial plans rich in value to their clients. We are honoured by the quality of their work and their dedication to their clients. Our winners exemplify what financial planning is all about.”
Ngoc Day, CFP®, CIM, R.F.P., TEP, from Macdonald, Shymko & Company Ltd. in Vancouver was named as Americas region first runner-up.
“While I was very nervous entering the completion, I found that the rigorous selection process was a great learning experience,” said Ngoc Day. “I appreciated the opportunity to present the financial plan to a distinguished panel of judges and to compete against a number of highly qualified colleagues.”
“The PlanPlus Global Financial Planning Awards provides an arena to promote the financial planning profession and highlights the importance of the six-step financial planning process, which all advisors in our firm embrace as we work with our clients to help them reach their financial goals. Thank you PlanPlus!”
“I wish to congratulate Jason Pereira and Ngoc Day,” said Marty Kurtz, Americas region judge. “In this second year of competition, the level of the entries and the elements of the plans themselves were quite impressive. The winners comprehension of the issues facing the clients and their ability to communicate with them really raised the competitive bar. As a judge I look forward to seeing where the entrants take the competition next year. Also, congratulations to all involved, as this is becoming a great tradition in financial planning.”
