Tourette Association of America Appoints Michelle Barnes as Interim President
Bayside, NY, August 13, 2015 --(PR.com)-- The Tourette Association of America, the only national organization serving the Tourette Syndrome and Tic Disorder community, today announced that their Board of Directors has appointed Michelle Barnes as interim President of the Association, effective immediately.
In this role, Barnes will draw on a wealth of management experience she has attained as a Principal at Interim Leadership Solutions, a company she founded in 2008 to assist nonprofits through complex transitions. Barnes brings a successful track record within the for-profit and the non-profit worlds and deep expertise on leading organizations during transitions.
“Every day, the Tourette Association makes a tremendous difference in the lives of individuals and families affected by Tourette Syndrome and other related Tic Disorders,” said Barnes. “I am very honored and excited to take on this opportunity to help the Association build on its current momentum and further its impact across awareness, research and community initiatives.”
Barnes will work closely with the members of the Association’s Board and executive leadership team to provide overall strategic direction, lead the operations of the organization, work collaboratively with the key organization stakeholders, and to set the organization up for a smooth and effective transition to the permanent President.

We have made great strides to shed light on Tourette Syndrome and are confident that she will take us to the next level and will bring awareness to this greatly misunderstood disorder,” said Rovena Schirling, Chair of the Board. “Her extensive background working with nonprofits will provide strategic guidance to the Association as we make this integral transition.”
A national search for a permanent President is underway and Barnes will serve as interim until a new president is selected and in place. The Board of Directors has retained a leading executive search firm to assist with identifying an exceptional qualified candidate for the position.
Michelle received her MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles and her BA in Economics from the College of William and Mary in Virginia.
