Friends of Karen Receives Key Grant from KeyBank
North Salem, NY, August 14, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Friends of Karen, a charity that provides vital and comprehensive support to local families who are caring for a child battling cancer or another life-threatening illness, has received a $2,500 grant from KeyBank Foundation. The funding will be used in its Family Support Program, which ensures that each Friends of Karen family receives the emotional, financial and advocacy help they so desperately need to remain functioning and able to cope during a time of intense crisis.
“Friends of Karen was founded in 1978 when one neighbor wanted to sustain her close friends through the devastating illness of their daughter Karen,” says Judith Factor, Friends of Karen’s Executive Director. “How wonderful that KeyBank can be a good neighbor to the 350 families we help each month!”
Beyond traditional banking products and services, Key Corporation supports communities through the important work of KeyBank Foundation, a nonprofit charitable organization founded in 1969. One of its core values is to bring a measurable impact to the community through grants that are designed to improve the quality of life for individuals.
“What Friends of Karen achieves for families suffering through their child’s illness is nothing short of remarkable,” says Ruth Mahoney, Market President for KeyBank's Hudson Valley/Metro NY District. “KeyBank is honored to help them in their mission to make life as bearable as possible when a child’s devastating diagnosis affects each member of the family.”
Friends of Karen is a registered IRS 501(c)(3) charity, and the only organization in the New York Tri-State region that provides customized support, from diagnosis through treatment, to families caring for a child battling a life-threatening illness. Since starting in 1978, they have touched the lives of nearly 14,000 children. Headquartered in North Salem with additional offices on Long Island and in Manhattan, Friends of Karen is widely recognized for its operational efficiency, with 83¢ of every dollar going directly to support families. Charity Navigator, an independent organization that evaluates the financial efficiency and responsibility of more than 8,000 U.S. charities, consistently gives Friends of Karen a 4-star rating – their highest award.
