“I often go canoeing down the river Yare in the city centre, paddling out towards Thorpe and on to Bramerton. There are a lot of people who kept asking where I’d hired my canoe from, only to disappoint them by saying I actually own it,” said Nick Hanington, owner of Pub and Paddle, and Weston Canoes who supply the wooden Canadian-style canoes. “Whilst I love canoeing down the river, an equally enjoyable part is getting out at the various pubs I visit along the way and having a refreshing drink or pub lunch. This is where the idea for Pub and Paddle was born.”

The company now rents out their canoes to groups of friends, families, stag dos and for corporate outings. The company has recently added guided tours to their offerings following demand from larger groups and corporate events. “The wooden canoes are all handcrafted by our team at Weston Canoes, a local company based in Weston Longville, Norwich. They are stable, safe and made from FSC certified wood. We notice our customers enjoy paddling a real wooden canoe, it gives them that extra back-to-nature feeling,” concludes Nick.
