Oil + Water Film Rapidly Accumulating Awards Before Official Release
Beachburg, Canada, December 07, 2007 --(PR.com)-- As the exclusive distributor of the documentary film, Oil + Water, The Heliconia Press is proud to announce that the film has already won three prestigious awards internationally—all before its official release in February 2008. To date, the festival version of Oil + Water has won the Daniel DeLaVergne Spirit Award at the Ashville Film Festival, Best Environmental Film at the Taos Mountain Film Festival, and a Jury Special Prize at the Kendal Mountain Film Fest.
Oil + Water is an inspiring documentary film about Seth Warren and Tyler Bradt, two good friends and world-class kayakers who drove, petroleum-free, over 21,000 miles down the Pan-American Highway in a retro-fitted bio-diesel truck—sharing their passion about sustainable living practices, teaching others about alternative fuel sources and having a great adventure along the way. The world premier of the feature version of Oil + Water is scheduled for December 6, 2008 at the renowned Jules Verne Adventure Film Festival in Los Angeles.
The Daniel DeLaVergne Spirit Award from the Asheville Film Festival (November 8-11, 2007) in North Carolina was named after expedition filmmaker, Daniel DeLaVergne. The award recognizes and honors filmmakers whose work pushes the limits of the human spirit and entertains us while exhibiting courage, integrity and hope. The Taos Mountain Film Festival, which ran this year from October 5-7, 2007 in New Mexico, features films about adventure, culture, wildlife, human rights and the environment. Playing to capacity crowds this year from November 9-18, the Kendal Mountain Film Festival in the United Kingdom showcases adventure films, where Oil + Water was the Winner of the Jury Special Prize. At Kendal, Oil + Water was also first runner-up in the Best Environment Film and Best Adventure Film categories.
"When we set out to make this documentary, we just wanted to tell a good story and spread the word about sustainable living—we never imagined we would get so much attention," says Seth Warren, President of the Biofuels Education Coalition and one of the two paddlers featured in the film. "We feel so honored to receive this kind of recognition, when we were up against so many other worthy films, and hope that the attention leads to more people learning about alternative energy and environmental choices."
Now an Official Selection for a wide range of festivals, including the 2008 Vancouver International Film Fest, the Wild and Scenic Film Fest, the Durango Film Fest, and the Carbondale Film Fest, Oil + Water is sure to continue delighting film festival audiences across North America and around the world. Oil + Water is also one of nine documentaries currently in competition for an award at the Jules Verne Adventure Film Festival in December 2007.
