New Release: The Salvage of Rapha
Originally written and updated in installments online for the entertainment of friends, "The Salvage of Rapha" now debuts as a science fiction novella, available soon in print. Follow four space explorers as they're stranded on a moon experiencing its apocalypse and forced to navigate natural disasters, a suspicious first contact, and their trust in each other in order to escape.
Boalsburg, PA, August 26, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Author Caitlin Turpin presents her first novella, The Salvage of Rapha. The fast-paced science fiction adventure will contain block-print-styled illustrations by Ronald Jenkins and Caitlin Turpin and will be available September 9, 2015 in print, e-book, and PDF format. It is presented by Kellan Publishing.
A pre-launch raffle will be held over the weekend of August 28 – 30 on the author's Facebook page, www.facebook.com/AuthorCJTurpin, for a chance to win a signed print copy or a free e-book copy of The Salvage of Rapha.
The Salvage of Rapha follows a crew of four previously unacquainted salvage contractors searching for a means of escape after an accident strands them on the little moon of Rapha Three. As they explore the fresh ruins of a city apparently abandoned overnight, they discover that the moon is being torn apart by unexplained gravitational changes and its ecosystem is dwindling rapidly towards a mass extinction. The only possible source of answers is a solitary alien, whose presence is suspect, and who offers to lead them to escape by means of a device that sounds too good to be true.
The Salvage of Rapha touches on bigger themes of failure, faith, and trust – but does so with lightness and optimism. The science is as thorough and believable as the brisk pacing and story scope will allow, but it's the emotional richness of the characters that drives the story forward.
“Rapha is a short piece of fiction, but it's a bit bigger on the inside, so to speak,” said the author. “I've always thought it's the tension between human smallness and the universe's hugeness that makes a story compelling. That's been done bleakly before, but I don't find it bleak. When we reach the edge of what we can do and find it wanting, that's exactly when we can see God reaching back for us the other way.”
