Background

Food packaging is becoming an increasingly important and diverse sector within the food supply chain. With increased regulatory, labeling and performance requirements being made for packaging materials the packaging producers need to ensure their products are meeting the expectations of their customers in a consistent and safe fashion.

Incidents of compromised food safety are on the rise and the packaging material has a vital role to play in ensuring the quality and safety of the food which it is containing. In order to support the packaging manufacturer and the desire of the food manufacturers to have transparency within the food supply chain the Foundation for Food Safety have developed the FSSC 22000 standard for packaging.
