Forever Young, Pine Forest Camp Celebrates 85 Happy Summers
Alumni Reunion Weekend Held at Camp, September 26-27, 2015.
Philadelphia, PA, September 16, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Pine Forest Camp, one of America’s oldest children’s summer camps is celebrating its 85th consecutive season with a weekend of activities at camp in Greeley, Pike County, Pennsylvania on September 26-27, 2015. There are thousands of summer camps in the United States but only a handful that can boast 5 generations of one family that own and operate their original summer camp.
Founded in 1931 by Hughie Black, a physical education teacher and professional basketball player who played for the legendary SPHAS (South Philadelphia Hebrew Athletic Society) and his wife Selma, the camp today is run by their grandchildren, Mickey and Barbara Black, and great grandchildren, Lee Forest Black and Eric and Anna Black Morin. Hughie and Selma’s son, 90-year-old Marvin Black is still active and fifth generation great, great granddaughters Hattie Black Morin (named after Hughie) and Ruby Black Morin are in residence at camp.
Started at the time of the Great Depression with only about 40 children from a few neighborhoods, the camp now welcomes over 400 children from 15 states and 5 countries. Pine Forest also expanded to include a brother camp, Lake Owego Camp for boys founded in 1961 and Camp Timber Tops for girls started in 1963, both operated by the original Black family and located in Greeley, PA.
Former campers and counselors are expected to make the trip back to their camping roots to re-live their summers at camp and to celebrate Hughie and Selma Black and their family’s legacy of happy, fun-filled summers.
