Mr. Martin has over 35 years experience in the medical device field. He retired in March 2015 from his position as the Worldwide Vice President of Research and Development for Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc. (Vistakon) which provides contact lens development and manufacturing internationally. He began his career with Johnson & Johnson Vision Care in 1984. Mr. Martin specialized in polymer chemistry, processing, contact lens development and manufacturing. He helped create gas permeable, disposable and daily disposable contact lenses as well as the market’s leading silicon hydrogel lens, ACCUVUE® OASYS®. He is the recipient of 2 Johnson & Johnson medals for the development of the ACUVUE® Disposable contact lens in 1992 and for the development of the 1-Day ACCUVUE® in 1997. Mr. Martin was one of 3 finalists for the British Contact Lens Association Industry Award for entrepreneurial work in contact lens science, research and technology in 2014 and received the British Contact Industry Award in 2015. He received the highest technical recognition awards from Johnson & Johnson and helped them drive the evolution of the contact lens industry through a number of game-changing technologies and innovations. He is recognized globally across the industry for his accomplishments and contributions and is sometimes referred to as “the father of disposable contact lenses.” As a result of his work, he leaves behind a legacy of achievement and a foundation for an even brighter future. Mr. Martin is affiliated with the A.C.S. He was born in Miami, Florida and obtained a B.S. from the University of Florida in 1979. He has two children and enjoys sailing, travel, photography and cooking in his leisure time.
