NVBAA and GRADD Make History at the Reno Air Races
NVBAA and GRADD provided attendees of the Reno Air Races with a flight simulator experience and presented a live demonstration of 3D printing at their joint booth in the Drone Zone tent. The 3D printing demonstration made history by being the first time ever to have Live 3D printing at the Reno Air Races and also marked the kick-off of NVBAA's "Free 3D Printing for Nevada's K-12" initiative.
Las Vegas, NV, September 30, 2015 --(PR.com)-- A team of engineers and staff from GRADD (Global Robot And Drone Deployment) and 4 student members of NVBAA's (Nevada Business Aviation Association) after-school aviation club from Sunrise Mountain High School (SMHS) in Las Vegas attended the Reno Air Races from September 17th-20th and manned a joint booth together in the Drone Zone. While promoting the efforts & initiatives of their organizations, the GRADD/NVBAA team provided Air Race attendees a flight simulator experience and presented a live demonstration of 3D printing at their joint booth.
Two flight simulator stations were set up in the GRADD/NVBAA booth and were supervised by the SMHS Aviation Club students, who provided over 250 free flight lessons to booth visitors ranging from elementary school students to adults.
"Taking the knowledge gained from NVBAA's after-school aviation program, I was extremely excited to show young students what I have learned in the Aviation Club. Getting to see the Reno Air Races was really cool, but guiding elementary students to fly a SR-71 jet with me as their instructor was truly awesome," said Joshua Carlson, a junior at SMHS.
In addition to the 2 flight simulators, the GRADD/NVBAA printed and gave away over 500 3D-printed miniature F-86 Sabre jet models to children and adults at their booth in the Drone Zone. Attendees that walked through the Drone Zone tent at the Reno Air Races 2015 were mesmerized by the 3D printing action, with many students and teachers wanting to know more about the process. The 3D printing demonstration made history by being the first time ever to have LIVE 3D printing at the Reno Air Races. The demonstration also marked the kick-off of NVBAA's "Free 3D Printing for Nevada's K-12" initiative, whose goal is to provide FREE education, training and 3D printed projects to all K-12 students and teachers of Nevada.
