Wright USA Supports National Cyber Security Awareness Month
Wilmington, DE, October 02, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Wright USA, the premier provider of protection products exclusively for federal employees, announces its support of National Cyber Security Awareness Month, a time for consumers to increase their cyber security knowledge, especially with regard to identity theft. Wright USA markets Wright Identity Shield, an online identity theft and credit monitoring service exclusively for federal employees which will notify them about potential misuse of their personal credit information.
Every two seconds, another American becomes an identity theft victim, according to the CNN/Money website. No wonder Americans are worried about having their identities stolen. Spearheaded by the Department of Homeland Security and the National Cyber Security Alliance, and endorsed by Wright USA, October 2015 marks the twelfth annual National Cyber Security Awareness Month – an entire month focused on raising public awareness and providing education regarding the importance of online safety and security and what can be done to keep personal data safe.
"If you use a smartphone, shop and/or bank online, or participate in many other activities involving use of personal data, you’re at serious risk of becoming an identity theft victim," said Robin Neil Haberle, Wright USA Marketing Director. "National Cyber Security Awareness Month is the perfect time for all consumers, including our sole constituency, Federal Employees, to learn how to protect their personal information from criminals who are trying to obtain it for all the wrong reasons."
Wright USA embraces the following consumer tips from the National Cyber Security Alliance that can help protect them from becoming victimized by tech-savvy identity thieves:
Your personal information is just that - personal - keep it that way - Be extremely cautious about how much personal information you provide on social networking sites. The more information you post (in status updates or profile information), the easier it is for an identity thief to make that information work against you. Don't download peer-to-peer networks, and, if you currently have them on your computer, be sure to delete as soon as possible because identity thieves can easily access your data and steal your personal information.
Know who your real friends are - Many social media users think it’s cool to have a huge pool of “friends.” This can be a dangerous. Make sure to keep your personal profile open only to your real friends (the ones you know and trust), especially if you plan to share details about your daily life.
Don't trust random links - Even links that look like they come from friends or family may actually contain malware or be part of a phishing attack by pretending to be a message from a friend or a business. If you have a bad feeling, don’t trust it, and don't click it – hit delete instead!
