The Knowledge Group Has Scheduled a Live Webcast on Defining Daily Fantasy Sports Betting: Is It Legal or Illegal? Live Webcast
New York, NY, October 02, 2015 --(PR.com)-- The Knowledge Group/The Knowledge Congress Live Webcast Series, the leading producer of regulatory focused webcasts, announced today that it has scheduled a live webcast entitled: Defining Daily Fantasy Sports Betting: Is it Legal or Illegal? Live Webcast. This two-hour event is scheduled on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM ET.
Event Synopsis:
In recent years, there has been an explosion in the growth of online daily fantasy sports, in which contestants win (often substantial) cash prizes based on the statistical performance of selected players on a single day or weekend. The legitimacy of daily fantasy sports has been bolstered by the support it has received from major U.S. sports leagues. The NBA is an investor in market-leader Fan Duel, while MLB and the NHL have endorsement deals with DraftKings, the other dominant site in the daily fantasy sports industry.
But is all of this actually legal? The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (the “UIGEA”) expressly contemplates fantasy sports contests being conducted as games of skill, and thus not illegal gambling as a matter of federal law. While the UIGEA does not preempt state laws prohibiting fantasy sports, only a few states have such laws. However, the UIGEA does place restrictions on all fantasy sports contests. Furthermore, some new entrants in the daily fantasy sports marketplace are offering contests that could be construed to constitute illegal gambling.
In this two-hour live Webcast, a panel of notable professionals and thought leaders assembled by The Knowledge Group will provide an in-depth analysis of these issues, as well as identifying best practices for daily fantasy sports operators to comply with applicable laws.
Key topics will include:
- State and Federal Law on Daily Fantasy Sports, including the UIGEA
- Forms of Daily Fantasy Sports and the Legality of each Form
- Dos and Don’ts in Operating a Daily Fantasy Sports Website
