The Community Women’s Orchestra and Music Director Dana Sadava welcome Dr. Robert Greenberg narrating as "The Inspector" for The Composer is Dead, by Nathaniel Stookey with text by Lemony Snicket for this fun, kid-friendly concert. CWO's 31st season opener also features orchestra students of the Edna Brewer Middle School (Oakland Public Schools) performing Legends of Glory, by Kathryn Griesinger, onstage with the Community Women’s Orchestra.

Oakland, CA, October 16, 2015 --(PR.com)-- The Community Women’s Orchestra is pleased to announce Dr. Robert Greenberg as narrator for their season opening headliner, The Composer is Dead, by Nathaniel Stookey with text by Lemony Snicket. CWO opens their 31st season with a family concert that encourages families with small children to experience the richness of classical music in a fun, kid-friendly atmosphere on Sunday, November 15, 4:00 pm at Lake Merritt United Methodist Church in Oakland. The program includes a world premiere of Legends of Glory, by Kathryn Griesinger, played by orchestra students of the Edna Brewer Middle School (Oakland Public Schools) and the Community Women’s Orchestra. Rounding out this program is the ebullient Candide Overture by Leonard Bernstein and one of Debussy’s most popular works, the Petite Suite.

Noted lecturer, professor, composer, and historian, Dr. Robert Greenberg, joins CWO's performance in the role of the Inspector for this irreverent musical whodunit. The Inspector interrogates each section of the orchestra until he deduces who murdered the composer.

To support women in music and to fulfill their mission of promoting female composers in every concert CWO is excited to present a new work by Kathryn Griesinger. Ms. Griesinger’s piece was selected from a recent Call for Scores for its uplifting qualities and accessibility to middle school performers. CWO is partnering with the Edna Brewer Middle School for this performance by playing with their middle school orchestra musicians for this piece.

Dana Sadava, CWO Conductor and Music Director, adds: "It's not every day that middle school students get to play a world premiere by a female composer! And we're very excited about our guest narrator, Robert Greenberg, who is a beloved music educator in the Bay Area and beyond. This concert is a must-see!"

The Community Women's Orchestra, established in 1985, is a volunteer, all-female orchestra committed to promoting women's orchestral music in a fun and welcoming environment.
