Prestigious Thieme-Sponsored 2015 SOMA Foundation Scholarship Awarded to Accomplished Medical Student
New York, NY, October 22, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Thieme is proud to announce that Lisa Midboe, a third year osteopathic medical student at West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) in West Virginia, USA, has been awarded the 2015 Humanism in Medicine Scholarship from the "Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA) Foundation." Thieme Publishers has sponsored this Scholarship since 2014. Through an affiliate agreement with SOMA, Thieme regularly provides valuable academic resources to incoming SOMA members.
Mike Roseman, Director of Sales, North America, commented:
“Thieme is very proud to once again sponsor this SOMA scholarship. It is rewarding to support the hopes and dreams of these passionate future medical professionals. We look forward to a long, prosperous partnership with the SOMA Foundation.”
This scholarship was created to honor the eight SOMA members who perished in October, 2004 during a flight to Kirksville, Missouri to explore ways of creating a “compassionate campus” at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. Applicants are judged on how well their character demonstrates the philsophy of osteopathic medicine, unconditional love for their community and peers, and leadership and dedication. Lisa Midboe perfectly exemplifies these qualities, as she has extensive healthcare leadership experience. Lisa’s volunteer activities include serving as Secretary of the WVSOM’s Delta Omega club for women in medicine & hosting a conference at which local leaders spoke to young women in the community about the value of good leaders and how to become an excellent leader. In her second year of medical school, Lisa was a campus contact for the local Habitat for Humanity, creating a volunteer schedule for WVSOM students to assist in building homes and work in the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. She and other volunteers donated an average of 40 hours per month at the ReStore, completing tasks such as painting, setting up shelves, and organizing merchandise. Thieme fully supports these values and passionately strives to encourage excellence in the medical community.
