WristSpotter Indiegogo Campaign Reunites Long-Lost Friends
10 years later, high school best friends reconnect to develop and launch WristSpotter, a new support device for injured lifters.
Seattle, WA, October 24, 2015 --(PR.com)-- It can be hard to rekindle a childhood friendship after 10 years of silence. But for WristSpotter creators and high school best friends Alex VanCour and Steven Steiner, it was as easy as launching an Indiegogo campaign.
The pair recently launched a crowdfunding initiative to support WristSpotter, their innovative new fitness device, with the goal of raising $30,000 by November 19th in order to fund national distribution.
Once high school best friends, the two inevitably grew apart as they each pursued their respective careers after graduation: VanCour going into the military and becoming an aerospace machinist, Steiner excelling at digital marketing. However, with both sharing a mutual passion for fitness, their paths fatefully crossed once again with the invention of the WristSpotter.
The device is the culmination of years of work: avid lifter VanCour first got the idea for the WristSpotter after undergoing four consecutive wrist surgeries and being told it was possible that he may never lift again. Working closely with orthopedic surgeons and physical therapists, he began to craft and refine a device that would enable him to get back on the bench without risk of further injury.
“I created WristSpotter because I saw a gap in the physical therapy and weight-lifting market that needed filling,” says VanCour. “While there are plenty of wrist support options available, not a single one alleviates excessive pressure in the wrist joint while pressing.”
Making a Long-Distance Friendship Work.
While WristSpotter’s focus is solely on enabling injured athletes to lift around wrist pain, it rests on a dual foundation of West Coast creativity and East coast business acumen. Seattle-based VanCour continues to lead product development, while Virginia-based Steiner handles marketing strategy.
“Although we graduated from Jackson a decade ago, having that established friendship makes our business relationship so much more productive,” said Steiner. “We communicate really easily and are always sharing new thoughts and ideas, even from opposite sides of the country.”
And, while their long-distance relationship depends heavily on Google Drive, phone minutes, and late-night emails to survive, VanCour and Steiner’s focus is clear and concise: to help devoted lifters keep doing what they love, safely and effectively.
