Flutist Peter H. Bloom, known for his virtuosity and versatility, will perform premieres by Karl Henning and David Leone in Boston’s King’s Chapel (Oct 27); music by Debussy and Ravel with Ensemble Aubade (Morton Arboretum Lisle, IL Nov 1 and Grand View University Des Moines, Nov 2); music by Mark Harvey with the Aardvark Jazz Orchestra Nov 14 at MIT Cambridge. Bloom will join legendary saxophonist Charles Neville Nov 29 in Ashfield, MA in a benefit concert for Nepal earthquake relief.
Boston, MA, October 26, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Flutist Peter H. Bloom, whose playing has been called “a revelation for unforced sweetness and strength” (The Boston Globe), continues his wide-ranging concert performances in October and November, including premieres by American composers Mark Harvey, Karl Henning, David Leone, as well as chamber works by Debussy, Ravel, Thea Musgrave and others, and a performance with the inventive FiLmprov ensemble featuring live improvisation by the legendary Aardvark Jazz Orchestra (43rd season) to the animated films of Kate Matson. Mr. Bloom will also appear as special guest with famed saxophonist Charles Neville in a benefit concert for Nepal earthquake relief. Peter H. Bloom has been praised by Jazz Improv for “exquisite melody… the improvisations growing organically out of the theme” while ArtsFuse wrote, “His solos on flute and amplified flute are always highlights of a performance.” Bloom has performed with the internationally acclaimed Aardvark Jazz Orchestra for almost 40 years. The group, consisting of Barbara Hill Meyers, soprano, Peter H. Bloom, multiple flutes, Carol Epple, flute, Pamela Marshall, horn, Dan Meyers, recorders, and Karl Henning, clarinet will perform two world premieres: Karl Henning’s From the Pit of a Cave in the Cloud, Op.129 (an intense monodrama written in 2015 on a text by Leo Schulte), and David Leone’s Cathedral for flute, clarinet and fixed media. In addition, Peter H. Bloom will perform Fylgjur (1981), a fantasy for flute solo after a Norse spirit by Czech pianist-composer Giorgio Koukl.
