Transgender American Veterans Assn. Brings a Highly Experienced Leader on Board

Akron, OH, October 31, 2015 --(PR.com)-- On October 20th, Transgender American Veterans Association (TAVA) brought Zander Keig, a key leader in the transgender community, to their board of directors. His experience and leadership will take TAVA to higher levels of engagement benefiting America's transgender veterans across the country.

Zander Keig, LCSW is a former United States Coast Guard fireman. He holds a Master of Social Work in Clinical Social Work, a Master of Arts in Comparative Theology, a Master of Science in Conflict Analysis and Resolution, and a Bachelor of Arts in Interpersonal Communication Theory. In 2012, Zander completed a one-year psychiatric social work internship with the VA San Diego Healthcare System, where he currently serves as a senior social worker with the VA Supportive Housing (VASH) program serving our nations chronically homeless veterans. Since 1987 he has conducted numerous public presentations and interactive workshops, well over 350, on issues related to diversity, nonviolence, cultural humility, trauma-informed care, sexual orientation and gender identity.

Zander is immensely involved in the transgender community and serves or has served in leadership roles for several national organizations: Recognized National Association of Social Workers (NASW) LGBT topic expert, T-Spot San Diego, VA National LGBT Employee Work Group, NASW National Committee for LGBT Issues, Mental Health America CA Reducing Disparities Trans Advisory Board, NASW CA Chapter Diversity Committee, LGBTQ Fellow at the Rockwood Leadership Institute, Trans Mentors International, FTM International, Trans Youth Family Allies Family Advocate & Volunteer Coordinator, Co-Chair of the Welcome Ministry Advisory Board, as well as a speaker for the Community United Against Violence LGBT Speakers Bureau.

Not only is Zander active in the community, he also is a published editor and writer. He co-edited and contributed to “Letters For My Brothers: Transitional Wisdom in Retrospect,” a Transgender Non-Fiction Lambda Literary Award Finalist and co-edited “Manning Up: Transsexual Men on Finding Brotherhood, Family and Themselves,” a Transgender Non-Fiction Lambda Literary Nominee. In addition, he was a co-author of “Transgender Veterans are Inadequately Understood by Healthcare Providers” published in Military Medicine, a peer-reviewed journal for federal and international health professionals.
