Over 100 guests attended the event, which included the induction of 13 men to the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR). After eighteen months of planning led by Organizing President and Registrar, Michael W. Rawlings, and VASSAR Secretary, R. Guests in attendance for the chartering ceremony included the National Society Sons of the American Revolution (NSSAR) President General, The Honorable Thomas E. Lawrence, as well as the VASSAR President, Dr. Reverdy E. Wright. Executive Director of the Menokin Foundation, Sarah Dillard Pope, welcomed guests to Menokin and President of the Foundation, the Honorable W. Tayloe Murphy, Jr., spoke about the significance of Menokin, once the home of Francis Lightfoot Lee who was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Chapter officers were elected during the ceremony and include: Lieutenant General Carl A. Strock, U.S. Army Retired, President; Wright Andrews, Vice President; Gregory Burkett, Secretary; and Mathew Parker IV, Treasurer. Other honored guests included representatives from the Daughters of the American Revolution, Children of the American Revolution, as well as other SAR members.

"We are deeply grateful to all those who made this day a reality and are delighted to join this Society that does so much to perpetuate the memory of the patriots who won our independence and to keep alive the their values and patriotism," said newly elected President of the Rappahannock Chapter, Lieutenant General Carl Strock.

During the charter ceremony, the chapter announced their symbolic adoption of Francis Lightfoot Lee as their chapter’s honorary patriot ancestor. “Francis and Rebecca died without children of their own,” noted the Menokin Foundation’s Executive Director Sarah Pope, “however, he now has this new chapter dedicated to honoring his name, his home, and his legacy. For that, we are so grateful.”
