Los Angeles, CA, November 02, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Tortoise and Finch Productions, LLC is an independent production company specializing in projects concerning social justice, public health, and human interest. It is also the company behind the recently released domestic violence documentary, You Look a Lot Like Me (www.youlookalotlikeme.com).
As part of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Tortoise and Finch has announced a Nonfiction Writing Contest on the topic of "courage" titled "On Courage," which will run from October 31st, 2015 until December 31st, 2015. There is no entry fee for the contest and a variety of prizes are being offered.
The Tortoise and Finch website says, "No matter who we are or where we come from, we all experience fear, doubts and sad, frightening, or challenging situations in our lives. How we choose to deal with these experiences matters for ourselves and for others. When dealing with the unknown, unexpected, uncomfortable, and unnerving, courage can be our most important resource. Sometimes it is the only resource we have.
"So, we want you to tell us about what courage has looked and felt like for you. We want you to share with us a time in your life when you have had to develop, lean on, or rediscover your courage. You can choose to tie your submission to any of the themes of our current projects—domestic violence, postpartum depression, love, serious illness, death and dying, or aging as a woman—or not. It’s entirely up to you."
Prizes are being offered from the following entrepreneurs and authors: Jennifer Dawn Gabiola of Dawning Soul; Shavonne Broom of StyleChurch; Robin Stratton of the Boston Literary Magazine and Big Table Publishing; author and domestic violence survivor, Rebecca Leo; Life Coach, Clinical Hypnotherapist, and Author, Nina Bingham; Lois Cuddy, Ph.D., Professor Emerita of English, Women’s Studies, and Comparative Literature at the University of Rhode Island; author Paul Beckman; poet Richard H. Fox; and the authors of "Still Here Thinking of You: A Second Chance With Our Mothers," Lori Toppel, Susan Hodara, Vicki Addesso, and Joan Potter.
