Newport Sea Base Rowing Partners with Pacifica Christian High School to Offer First Scholastic Rowing Program in Orange County
Newport Beach, CA, November 01, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Newport Sea Base Rowing (www.seabaserowing.org) is partnering with Pacifica Christian High School (www.pacificaoc.org) to offer rowing as part of their winter/spring sports program. This will be the first scholastic rowing program in Orange County and an exciting opportunity for students and the rowing program alike. Pacifica, home of the Tritons based in Newport Beach, will compete in scholastic races as a school team, as well as with the Sea Base Rowing team, gaining further experience as well travel opportunities.
Pacifica provides a rigorous, college-preparatory, liberal arts education for students from all backgrounds and neighborhoods. It also believes in creating an environment where student-athletes will be challenged to develop mental and moral faculties, alongside physical skills. This is where the partnership with Newport Sea Base Rowing will be instrumental as it not only focuses on the team aspect of competing, but also on personal training, improvement, nutrition, academics, and more. Sea Base Rowing coaches and instructors include top tier athletes, trainers, and even a two-time gold medal Olympian, providing the highest level of training possible.
Pacifica’s director of athletics, Brandon Gonzalez, shares his excitement about the partnership saying, “Being able to offer the first high school rowing program in the Orange County area is an unbelievable opportunity. It gives our student rowers a chance to represent their high school in interscholastic competition. Our students also have access to professional training/coaching, collegiate level rowing facilities, and the proper support needed to be a successful student-athlete.”
Rowing continues to be the number one recruited sport for colleges as well as the most scholarship-awarded sport for both men and women. This is why Sea Base Rowing holds education and its athletes’ academics in the highest regard, even offering a tutoring program to help in science, physics, chemistry, and all math subjects up to calculus. The club tutor, Ha Nguyen, has five years experience tutoring and earned his bachelor’s in Earth System Science from UCI. Tutoring is offered Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, with a study hall on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Pacifica Christian High School and Newport Sea Base Rowing are very excited to see both these young programs grow individually, as well as together, raising the standard of the student-athlete with prestige education and top-tier physical training. Catch both the Pacifica rowing team, and the Sea Base Rowing team in action at the Freedom Cup Regatta next year, March 19, 2016 in Newport Harbor. Come out to Pacifica’s meet and greet at the Newport Sea Base on November 6th, from 5pm-6pm.
