She belongs to several German-American organizations in Orange County, is involved in the PTA at Newport Elementary School, and is a member of the Ethiopian Education Foundation, a London-based charity.

In her free time, Hellermann enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, theater and art, literature, skiing, beach sports, and Pilates.
