Dream Foundation and San Francisco 49ers Fulfill Final Dream for Terminally Ill California Man
Santa Barbara, CA, November 05, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Dream Foundation–the only national dream-granting organization for adults and their families facing life-threatening illness–along with the San Francisco 49ers, will fulfill the final dream of 54 year-old Banning, Calif. resident Eddy Burch who has been diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer and given a life expectancy of fewer than six months.
Born a Siamese twin and expected to live no more than a year, Burch is now happily married and raising two of his adopted grandchildren. First diagnosed with stage III colon cancer at the age of 46, Burch went through several rounds of chemotherapy and surgery. Three years later, the cancer had spread to his liver, at which time he underwent more surgery and treatment. Unfortunately, the cancer has spread again and Burch was given the diagnoses of inoperable stage IV colon cancer.
Faced with the unimaginable truth that he has less than a year to live, Burch has asked Dream Foundation to grant one last, final dream. A lifelong fan of the San Francisco 49ers, he has had the opportunity to go to many games but has never had the chance to meet the team. Maintaining its track record of never turning down a qualified dream request, Dream Foundation went to work.
On Friday, November 6th, Burch, his wife Esther, and their adopted grandsons Edward (16) and Dominique (13) will enjoy practice as well as a meet-and-greet with the team. That following Sunday, November 8th, the Burch family will be treated to the ultimate game experience courtesy of the San Francisco 49ers.
“Eddy is the 23rd dream recipient the San Francisco 49ers have graciously hosted in partnership with Dream Foundation. When we call, the 49ers don’t hesitate to make dreams happen,” said Dream Foundation Executive Director Kisa Heyer. “For the dreamers we serve, it’s not just a game. It is a much-needed reprieve from the hardships of illness. It is a joy-filled escape with loved ones. The happy memories generated around Eddy’s dream will endure through generations.”
