Food Bank of South Jersey Names Subaru of America Inaugural Winner of Champion Against Hunger Award
Automaker Honored for Its Long-Time Role in Supporting FBSJ’s Mission.
Pennsauken, NJ, November 07, 2015 --(PR.com)-- The Food Bank of South Jersey (FBSJ) announced today that it has named Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA) as the initial recipient of its newly-created Champion Against Hunger Award.
The award will be presented to Subaru of America’s Philanthropy and Corporate Responsibility Manager, Sandy Capell, at FBSJ’s annual gala, Viva South Jersey, to be held November 12 at the Westin Hotel in Mount Laurel, NJ.
“Subaru’s culture of caring and giving back to the communities where they work and live truly embodies corporate America at its best,” stated FBSJ CEO Val Traore, who has directed the non-profit organization since 2006. “Their matchless generosity has helped move our mission forward in so many ways and for so many years.”
SOA’s support for FBSJ dates back to 1986. The scope of their philanthropy includes: vehicle donations; event sponsorships and participation; financial donations to help launch and sustain critically-needed direct programs like FBSJ’s Hope Mobile, Kidz Pack, and Summer Meals; employee volunteerism; and annual donations from Subaru’s Share the Love Garden and annual Drive Out Hunger food drive.
“We are honored to receive this recognition,” stated Tom Doll, President and COO, Subaru of America. “The fight against hunger has long been a cause that our company champions. We share this award with all Subaru employees who so willingly engage in community service and deliver on the Subaru Love Promise to impact our neighborhoods and make the world a better place.”
In 2014, FBSJ distributed 10.4 million pounds of food to nearly 200,000 food-insecure residents in Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, and Salem counties. Proceeds from this year’s Viva South Jersey Gala will help fund FBSJ children’s programs. Former NJ Congressman and Philadelphia Eagle Jon Runyan and his wife Loretta Runyan will serve as honorary co-chairs for the event.
