Inspiration: Medical Tourism Association® Honors Jordanian Doctor with Lifetime Achievement Award

Fawzi Al-Hammouri, President of Jordan Private Hospitals Association, recognized at World Medical Tourism & Global Healthcare Congress, in Orlando, Florida.

Palm Beach Gardens, FL, November 11, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Private hospitals in Jordan have responded to an increased demand for healthcare services by investing – roughly JD2 billion – in facilities, technology, and human resources that have helped to underline both the kingdom’s reputation as a health and wellness destination and the leadership skills of Dr. Fawzi Al-Hammouri, a recipient of the Medical Tourism Lifetime Achievement Award, the Medical Tourism Association announced today.

“Despite the enormous burden from neighboring countries, Jordan has become a regional hub for medical tourism,” said Renée-Marie Stephano, president of the Medical Tourism Association®, at an awards ceremony during the 8th World Medical Tourism & Global Healthcare Congress, 2015, in Orlando, Fla. “At a time when regional conflict has prioritized the need for complicated specialty procedures, private hospitals In Jordan have accommodated not only Jordanian nationals, but scores of Saudis, Libyans, Iraqis, Palestinians, and Syrians seeking desperately needed treatment.”

During his tenure, Dr. Al-Hammouri, president of the Jordan Private Hospitals, has seen private medical services reach more than 250,000 foreign patients annually, a contribution to the national economy of more than $1.2 billion in revenue while, at the same time, creating 30,000 jobs.

The ratio of physicians to the Jordanian population – 26 per 10,000 — has also reached a figure comparable with numbers in the United Kingdom, which boasts 2.7 doctors per 1,000 residents. Although the two nations attract similar revenue from medical tourism, treatments in Jordan not only cost substantially less than those in the United Kingdom, but also rate highly in patient satisfaction scores.

Jordan has 63 private hospitals and two university centers that specialize in research and training. Support staff includes 32 nurses per 10,000 Jordanians, a figure on par with Thailand, considered an international leader. And, the number of pharmacists in the kingdom – 14 per 10,000 Jordanians – is comparable to that of Japan.

The World Medical Tourism & Global Healthcare Congress accepts nominations to honor leadership, innovation, education, service and top facilities and destinations in the care and treatment of both international- and domestic-traveling patients.

Stakeholders who make up the billion-dollar medical tourism industry are encouraged to forward news of tremendous performances that recognize customer-focused care, international quality and standards, patient safety and satisfaction, effective leadership and state-of-the-art technology within the calendar year 2015-2016.
