New Novel by Jewel Thomas Shares Incredible Family Saga
Dog Ear Publishing releases a new book by Jewel Thomas in which George Pounds, a young mulatto born to sharecroppers, and his wife, Cora, a girl born to slaves, start a family that spans the events of the 20th century. Their story is told in a new book by Jewel Thomas that Dog Ear Publishing reviews.
Pittsburgh, PA, November 13, 2015 --(PR.com)-- George and Cora Pounds were young, hardworking, and deeply in love. The couple started their family, and they were filled with hope for their future. They moved from their home in Danville, Va., to the north, where George found a more lucrative opportunity in the mines of Pennsylvania. “Eleven Pounds,” newly released by Dog Ear Publishing, is a fascinating story of a family remaining strong in the face of ceaseless adversity.
Sadly, George and Cora’s lives were touched by many tragedies, as they lost several of their beloved children, but the couple taught the children who remained that through hard work, faith, and a commitment to family, they could live to their potential, undeterred by the challenges they faced because of the color of their skin.
Author Jewel Thomas delved into her own family’s history to create the book, sharing the knowledge she gleaned from letters, clippings, photos and stories through the years. Thomas, born and raised in Herminie, Pa., earned her master’s degree at Carnegie-Mellon University. This is her first novel.
