New Book by Rebekah Phelps Helps Readers Soar with new Sense of Faith

The dove can’t hold onto the egg for long so he safely deposits it in the nest of a hen in a coop full of chickens on a nearby farm. A heartwarming humorous story about life lessons follows, described in a new book released by Dog Ear Publishing.
Inspired by the author’s real-life story and sighting of an eagle soaring above, “I’m an Eagle, Not a Field Chick” stars Goldie, a young eagle who can’t seem to fit in. Even as a newly hatched eaglet, she had different colored feathers and was bigger than all the other chickens, and her size and differences only continues to set her apart. Goldie doesn’t like the bland diet of her fine-feathered friends, which leads them to believe she is a snob.
A mischievous snake adds to the young eagle’s woes by stirring up trouble, and she decides to leave the barnyard behind and build her own nest in a nearby tree. Eventually Goldie realizes she needs to journey farther than the tree to make her own way in life, so she starts up the mountain on foot. She encounters new friends, learning lessons along the way, including how to soar like a true eagle when she reaches the peak and meets her soulmate, Boaz.
Written as a modern-day parable, the dove represents God and the snake symbolizes Satan, and the barnyard animals are the doubters and people who aren’t what they seem. Discussion notes for each chapter guides readers into their own journey of faith and introspection. Illustrations by Aaron Hover help bring the faith-affirming story to life in vivid color.
Author Rebekah Phelps owns Extra You LLC, a personal concierge company that offers services from watching houses, running errands and waiting on contractors. She also founded White House Home Inventory. She also wrote “The Psalm of My Heart,” a prayer about who believers are in Christ. Phelps has served as a hospice volunteer for eight years, worked with adults who are intellectually challenged and served through Christian ministry. She and her husband, George, live in West Virginia and attend Cornerstone Chapel in Leesburg, Va. They have two grandchildren and a cat they wait on named Tipper Puppy.
Illustrator Aaron Hover has more than 15 years of experience providing everything from concept art to cartoons, illustrations and logos. He owns Mountain of Strength LLC, a design and illustration services company. He has a degree in mechanical engineering from North Carolina State University and is a full-time freelance artist self-taught in charcoal, ink, graphite, painting and Photoshop.
