AvaDent Addresses the Skepticism Surrounding the Current State of Digital Impressions

While it is undeniable that dentures have come a really long way since they were first invented, certain dental practitioners still resist the use of Computer-Aided Design (CAD), and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) technology and certain record taking techniques when creating what amounts to “digital impressions” for their patients when taking impressions of their patients.

Scottsdale, AZ, November 30, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Although there have been improvements made to obtaining dental records in recent years, there are still many that are skeptical about the accuracy of digital impressions.

According to Gordon Christensen, DDS, MSD, PhD, “Out of the 40 million impressions taken each year, 90% do not have all of the margins captured, which equates into 36 million crowns that do not have all of their margins captured every year... The quality of an impression determines the quality of the indirect restoration.”

With the help of digital scanners, AvaDent is able to capture a scan of a dental impression made with AvaDent impression material, creating essentially a “digital impression” of the patient’s mouth. The dental practitioner is then able to analyze it more closely because he is able to get more detail and information out of the impression, thereby reducing the margin of error that can occur with more traditional impression methods that have been transferred to a stone model. For example, it is even possible to copy the natural palate of the patient.
