Acquisition International Corporate M&A Deals Close to Record in 2015
Tokyo, Japan, November 22, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Acquisition International reports that 2015 will see near-record levels of corporate mergers and acquisitions and that 2016 is shaping up to be the biggest-ever in dollar value terms.
So far this year, the value of M&A activity has been worth US$4.02 trillion, US$600 billion short of the all-time record of US$4.61 trillion set back in 2007.
Mega-deals such as drinks behemoth Anheuser-Busch InBev’s acquisition of rival brewer, SABMiller for US$105.6 billion and computer giant Dell’s purchase of data storage company EMC for US$67 billion have been the stand out stories of the year and Acquisition International says further consolidation and a need to improve shareholder value will continue to drive activity next year.
Key sectors that have experienced M&A growth this year include telecommunications, aerospace and technology but Acquisition International believes that healthcare and oil & gas will remain strong for some time to come.
Healthcare has been buoyant this year as a whole host of sectors affected by it try to reposition themselves in response the implications of the Affordable Care Act or “Obamacare” in the US. “Insurers, drugs companies and healthcare providers have become predators and prey as they strive to remain profitable,” explained Sam Greenhaus, who heads life sciences and healthcare acquisitions practice at Acquisition International.
M&A activity is expected to grow next year because economic growth remains sluggish around the world, corporate profits and earnings growth has moderated and acquisitions can give a significant boost to jump-start further growth.
The firm says its own pipeline of deals is looking particularly robust with several technology and mining deals expected to come to fruition in 2016.
