Melinda Looi and Tumi Collaborate on Asian Designer Capsule Collection
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, November 25, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Tumi, the leading international brand of world-class business and travel essentials collaborated with Malaysian award-winning fashion designer Melinda Looi on their Asia Designers Capsule Collection, a collaboration which is featuring seven cutting-edge designers and artists from different countries across the region from Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam and Taiwan. Melinda Looi, Malaysia’s very own top designer was handpicked by TUumi to represent Malaysia in this collaboration.
Each designer was tasked with creating a unique print – inspired by culture and modern travel – for Tumi's black ballistic nylon tote bag. The design is featured on both sides of the bag, which also boasts chic black leather handles, a monogram patch and slick black hardware. Each bag also comes with a premium leather luggage tag bearing the creator’s brand name.
Melinda Looi’s Tumi tote bag print is also her Spring Summer 2016 collection print. The strong and timeless tile design reflects the heritage of her label and her passion for fashion and art.
"I felt very honoured to be part of this collaboration with Tumi. I’ve always loved Tumi bags, (I use them whenever I travel overseas) and now to be able to have my print on these tote bags are such a privilege," says the designer.
The collection will be available from November 2015 onwards in over 10 countries including Malaysia.

About Melinda Looi
Melinda Looi started her journey on a scholarship at the La Salle School of Fashion in Montreal, Canada. It was her graduation collection in 1995 that catapulted her into the spotlight, earning her the Malaysia Young Designer Award 1995 in Kuala Lumpur.
Melinda has also been involved in various stage productions in Malaysia, as well as the television and film industry in Canada. She has consistently proven her ability and creativity through many awards locally and internationally, especially the prestigious Designer of the Year Award, in 2004 and 2006 at the Malaysian International Fashion Awards, and once again in 2009 at the Mercedes Benz STYLO Fashion Awards. Melinda’s latest accolades include an award for 2014 Sport and Art Trophy from International Olympic Council, Switzerland.
Her most recent achievement is being selected as a Malaysian representative at 2014 World Fashion Week, Paris with one of her couture piece being showcased as part of the World Fashion Exhibition, at various international fashion weeks.
Today, Melinda Looi has four distinct brands to her name, which are: Melinda Looi Couture, Melinda Looi Ivory (the designer’s eponymous made-to-measure bridal collection), Melinda Looi Prêt-à-Porter, and MELL Basics; a range of organic cotton basics.
Besides working on her own fashion labels, Melinda is also involved in numerous and very diverse collaborations reaching from charities and eco-friendly events to art projects, as well as collaborations with international brands and corporates such as L'Oréal , Levi's, Nando's, and many others.
