South Florida Nonprofit Seeks to Provide 52 Scholarships for Students in Jamaica
Education Gateway Foundation seeks assistance in providing 52 scholarships for students in Jamaica. The scholarships are provided to students in the rural area. They receive vouchers for textbooks and school uniforms to alleviate financial stress on families in the area.
Greenacres, FL, November 25, 2015 --(PR.com)-- The group partnered with Education Officer Patricia Perry of Quality Education Circle #62 (School District) in Jamaica to identify 13 primary schools to support in its inaugural year. They developed an ambitious plan to provide two scholarships per school: one boy/one girl. They successfully funded each school through sponsorship from businesses and donations from the South Florida community.
Education Gateway Foundation provides scholarships to the students with unique home challenges. For example, Peter Douglas, last year’s winner from Rest Primary, goes between homes because his father works seasonally as a farmer. In his essay, Peter describes his living situation in the following way: “I live with my great grandmother who is very old and sick when my father is not working. I know that we don’t have a lot. I don’t try to stress my dad, so I keep satisfy with what I have. Sometimes my sister and I go to school without lunch, but we understand. This scholarship would be a great help to my family.”
Education Gateway Foundation believes a child, like Peter, should not have to worry about the financial stresses of his dad and his great grandmother. Education Gateway Foundation exists to alleviate some of the families’ financial stress in a concrete way and to support local entrepreneurs. EGF will provide financial assistance to students in the form of $250 vouchers: $100 for uniform and $150 for textbooks. Families use a voucher to claim their uniform and textbooks. Education Gateway Foundation has partnered with a local bookstore and a local dressmaker to provide these services. Each vendor billed the organization directly to ensure the students took full advantage of the scholarship in the manner in which Education Gateway Foundation intended. EGF invites the community to join them on this mission. This year, EGF has challenged themselves to impact 52 students’ lives. Here are a few ways your assistance will further the mission:
1. Be a Donor: sponsor 2 or more students
2. Be a Sponsor: sponsor 1 student
3. Be a Friend: donate any amount
4. Share Education Gateway Foundation's mission with your network of friends and family (Critical for EGF to successfully meeting this year’s goal)
5. Make a $25 donation and receive Raffle ticket for a 4 or 5 night cruise for two on Royal Caribbean Cruise Line valued at $1600
Donation may be sent via the EGF website http://edgatewayfoundation.org or by mail P.O. Box 542694, Greenacres, FL 33463.
