Unsolved East Area Rapist Case Documented by Criminology Author Duane D. Wilson Re-Opened by FBI

Sacramento, CA, December 03, 2015 --(PR.com)-- FOX and CBS Sacramento news affiliates recently reported that the FBI has re-opened the long-dormant case of the East Area Rapist, also known as the Original Night Stalker.

According to reports, the Air Force Office of Special Investigations is joining the search and asking for the public’s help. The unidentified serial killer is believed to be responsible for approximately 50 rapes and at least 10 murders throughout California during the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The news comes just a few months after the release of "TERROR AT 3 AM," a based-on-real-life work of fiction based on the crime spree. Authored by longtime criminology professor and former Northern California police officer Duane D. Wilson, the novel presents fresh, compelling theories pertaining to the crimes, the rapist and law enforcement’s inability to apprehend a suspect.

The novel documents the series of crimes using a cunning, calculating and unforgiving protagonist fresh out of the military and stricken with the effects of PTSD. Wilson infuses the fast moving story with a series of theories he formulated while on the pulse of the case in the late 70s. At the time, Wilson was working as a criminology professor at Sacramento City College, a campus located only a few miles away from where the series of rapes began to occur. "TERROR AT 3 AM" is available at Amazon.com.

It is unclear what led to the reopening of the FBI investigation after the case sat virtually dormant for 30 years, but both news stations encourage anyone who gave a statement about the case to re-contact the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department’s TIP Line at 916-874-TIPS (8477).

In addition to Professor Wilson, there are many people who have been working behind the scenes to shed light upon this historic crime spree that had communities living in fear during a time before security systems and video surveillance.
