“Literacy For Christmas” Book Drive Promotes Literacy and Increased Family Time Spent Reading
Accelerated Learning Services is giving the gift of reading this holiday season with a Grand Opening that includes the Literacy for Christmas Book Drive.
Alpharetta, GA, December 03, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Accelerated Learning Services has announced that it plans to give back in a not so traditional way this holiday season. From November 15-December 11, 2015, Accelerated Learning Services is hoping to collect at least 200 new or gently used books through the Literacy For Christmas Book Drive to be able to provide books to families with limited access to reading materials or low literacy rates in Fulton County.
The Literacy For Christmas concept is two-fold: allow people to be benevolent for the holidays in a way that improves academics and encourages families to spend more time together (away from technology) by reading together. “We are seeking to serve families with newborn to high school aged children who are foster children, receive free lunches, live in subsidized housing, receive English-language tutoring, or read below grade level,” said Aquarius Cain, CEO of Accelerated Learning Services. “Children from these groups are more likely to experience academic failure and less likely to have access to books and other reading materials. We just want them to know that we support them and want them to be successful because ‘Academic Success Starts Today.’ Toys are fun and exciting and help children’s imagination to grow but books can take an entire family into another world, another country, another dimension. Reading is empowering! How awesome is that?”
Accelerated Learning Services will host a Book Drive celebration that coincides with their Grand Opening for the new tutoring center that opened in October 2015. The grand opening and celebration will be held on December 13, 2015 from 12:00 pm – 5:0 0 pm. Families are encouraged to attend the event to receive their books (a minimum of 1 book per family member). Those in attendance will be encouraged to use the various social media outlets to show that they are reading for the holidays by posting pictures and using the hashtag: #literacy4xmas. Other activities planned include games, crafts, music, snacks, and story-time in addition to sampling the new classes and courses Accelerated Learning has to offer for the upcoming year. Vendors will be available offering other gifts, products, and services. Mrs. Cain adds, “we want to let people know that we are here and our Book Drive/Celebration is the perfect way to introduce ourselves to the community.”
Families are asked to preregister to attend so that there are enough books for every person. They may register by going to the following website: www.alstutoring.com/literacy4xmas .
The public can help by asking friends, families, church groups, scout troops, youth organizations, businesses, and students doing service projects to collect books and donate them to the book drive, and by placing collection receptacles in places of business. Books may be dropped off at: Accelerated Learning Services at 1030 Cambridge Square, Suite E, Alpharetta, GA (please call to have someone meet you). Sponsors, partners, and vendors are needed.
