In a First, Goa Institute of Management to Give Profile Based Calls

All 50 Scholarships will be decided in Jan 2016, on profile basis i.e. Professional, Academic and Extra-curricular excellence, much before CAT/XAT scores are out.

Goa, India, December 04, 2015 --(PR.com)-- The Admissions team at Goa Institute of Management is working overtime. The first cut-off date is 15th December 2015, less than a fortnight away – for those taking CAT 2015. Those taking their XAT 2016/ CMAT 2016-17 can apply up to 31st December 2015. There will be a grace period of 2 days (upto 7am on3rd of Jan 2016) with a late fee, of course, for the eleventh hour entries. However, what’s keeping the Admissions team busy is the introduction of the Achiever’s Round this year.

“We’ve introduced the Achiever’s Round, basically to streamline our scholarships process,” says Professor Rakesh Shrivastava, Head of Admissions at the Institute. “GIM has announced scholarships worth 4 Lakhs each to 45 meritorious students of our regular PGDM programme, with a total intake of 240 students. These scholarships will be awarded only to those candidates who clear the Achiever’s Round that will be held in January 2016. We have asked students to list as many as 6 of their achievements in the online application form. These achievements may be academic, co-curricular or, for those with work experience, career-oriented. Achievements and the profile of candidates will be the basis for short listing,” he explains.

What it effectively means is that the Admissions Team is already poring through the application forms to create the shortlist for the Achiever’s Round that will be held on-campus at Goa Institute of Management, Sanquelim. A Letter of Invitation will be dispatched to shortlisted applicants in January beginning. While this shortlist will be drawn without XAT, CAT, CMAT scores, those who get through the Achiever’s Round will be required to measure up to a Guidance Minimum Score for the XAT, CAT, CMAT decided by GIM. However, GIM has made it absolutely clear that all scholarships will be decided on the basis of the Achiever’s Round. Those coming through regular admission procedures will not be eligible for scholarships.

Scholarship considerations apart, the Achiever’s Round will procedurally be the similar to the regular admissions process. For Achiever's round, candidates will be required to submit the Statement of Purpose and two recommendation letters at the time of the face-to-face evaluation. The final selection shall be made on objective and leadership assessment (40% weightage), the candidate's past academic performance (15% weightage), work experience, if any (10% weightage), performance in the face-to-face evaluation process (30 % weightage) and composite diversity index (5% weightage).

While the Achiever’s Round will be held in January in Goa, the regular admission process will be held in Ahmadabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Goa, Cochin, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, and New Delhi - subject to availability.

The qualifying cut-off XAT / CAT / CMAT score will be lowered by 15 points for candidates of Goan domicile/origin. International/ NRI candidates will need a valid GMAT score. Interviews will be held through videoconferencing.

GIM had broken into the Outlook top-20 last year (19th), climbed a phenomenal 18 places to break into the top-25 of Business Today rankings in just 2 years (Ranked 42 in 2011, and ranked 24 in 2013), and is also amongst the ‘Top 25’ in the rankings published by The Week. This has been one of the reasons why GIM has attracted an increasingly strong talent pool of students over the years. GIM’s has a state-of-the-art infrastructure and rated as 5th most beautiful campus by Shiksha. In 2010, GIM moved from its campus at Ribandar, to a 50-acre sprawling campus at Sanquelim surrounded by the idyllic foothills of the Western Ghats.

In the latest surveys, Career360 has placed GIM as 16th and T.I.M.E has rated GIM as 'A'.

Once again in 2015, Goa Institute of Management has recorded a good placement, maintaining its 100% placement record. The Median pay package stood at 8.8 Lakhs per annum this year. The highest package offered was 13.15 Lakhs per annum, and more than 40% of the students have placements with a package of 9 Lakhs and above. Recruiters like JP Morgan, HCL Technologies, Infosys, HDFC, eClerx, Cognizant etc. recruited with packages well in 7-digits.

The session for both the PGDM & PGDM-HCM is likely to begin in first fortnight of June 2016.
