Norwalk, CT, December 04, 2015 --(PR.com)-- According to a national research study conducted in 2012 by Americans for the Arts, the arts in Fairfield County are big business. The study, done in cooperation with the Fairfield County Cultural Alliance, revealed that nonprofits, cultural and creative organizations and, by extension, creative businesses, generate more than $130 million annually and support more than 4,000 jobs.
The Mayor’s Gallery in Norwalk City Hall opened an exhibit “Made in Norwalk: Recognizing Norwalk’s Creative Economy” on November 18, 2015. Focusing on a number of Norwalk businesses and organizations, including TFI Envision, Inc.; Music Theatre of Connecticut; the Fairfield County Makers Guild; illustrator Maggie Swanson; musician and teacher Gerald Myles; and SONO Entertainment, the exhibit is a celebration of the vibrant creative community that enriches quality of life in Norwalk.
“While researching creative organizations and businesses in Norwalk, a consistent element I found is how much these groups and individuals give back to the Norwalk community through education, various kinds of financial and volunteer support and, certainly, economic growth,” said Mayor’s Gallery curator Melissa Slattery. The opening reception at 6 p.m. featured remarks from Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling.
“When you realize what we have in Norwalk in terms of the arts community, it’s incredible how much creativity there is happening in Norwalk,” Rilling said.(1)
