ELIC Empowering Teachers in Impoverished Laos Province

Fort Collins, CO, December 04, 2015 --(PR.com)-- This summer, English Language Institute of China (ELIC) sent nine teachers from Canada and the U.S. to train Lao instructors at the English Language Teacher Training Program (ELTTP). The accelerated program brought 130 teachers from the poorest regions in the country together with the hope that they would gain methods to adequately teach English in their villages.

Since 1981, ELIC has sent instructors to Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa to teach English. Today, ELIC has hundreds of teachers who have given up the comfort of their normal lives for the adventure of bringing quality English education to some of the most remote locations in the world. Since the start of ELIC, the organization has transformed more than a million lives through education.

ELIC first formed a partnership with the Lao government in 1996, and since 1998, ELIC has worked with the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports and the National University of Laos, as well as teacher-training colleges throughout the country. The hope of the ELTTP was that training Lao teachers to teach English will enable areas with little economic opportunity to gain skills which will enable young people to find fulfilling jobs - ultimately raising their families from poverty. The training took place at the Teachers Training College in Keun village for one month and the teachers walked away with a plethora of strategies and tips to take back to their classrooms.

Currently, ELIC teachers are conducting follow-up visits to the teachers’ villages for continuing education workshops. The hope for ELIC is that we will continue to cultivate our relationship with the Lao government and we will continue to see the benefits of quality education in Southeast Asia and around the world.
