Cyndi Lauper Named Grand Marshal of Show Day (Dec 26)
Swiftly Tilting Theatre Project Joins Live Entertainment Industry to Declare: The Day After Christmas is for Going Out!
Long Island City, NY, December 14, 2015 --(PR.com)-- For the first time ever, performing arts centers, promoters, producers, sports teams and more from across the country are joining together to declare December 26 Show Day. Today, Swiftly Tilting Theatre Project, Inc. announces it too will join the live entertainment industry initiative to proclaim the 26th the day to take family, friends and loved ones to a live event.
Swiftly Tilting Theatre presents Twelfth Night set in a modern day jazz club with original music. Drinking, partying, singing, and pranks ensue as the characters struggle between loneliness and that ever elusive quest to find love, or at least distraction.
And what would Show Day be without an official Grand Marshal? This year’s Show Day Grand Marshal is Tony, Emmy and Grammy-winner Cyndi Lauper, creator of the original score for Kinky Boots, now on Broadway and on tour across the country. “I’m thrilled to be named Grand Marshal for Show Day,” says Lauper. “Having witnessed so many audiences at Kinky Boots these last few years, [I know] live entertainment has the power to make people incredibly happy, and that’s a wonderful thing in today’s world. So I encourage everyone to grab some friends or family and go out and see a show.”
Lauper exploded on the scene in the '80s as a trend-setting pop star with hit songs like "Girls Just Want to Have Fun," "She Bop" and "Time After Time." She’s gone on to sell more than 50 million albums in a career that spans four decades and multiple genres.
Swiftly Tilting Theatre Project, Inc. joins Lauper in leading the charge for Show Day, alongside live entertainment ticket seller Goldstar. Also involved are more than 5,000 venues, producers, promoters, teams and other live entertainment organizations, including Cirque du Soleil, Madison Square Garden (New York), Smuin Ballet (San Francisco), Blue Man Group, the Harlem Globetrotters, the House of Blues, Arena Stage (Washington, D.C.), The House Theatre of Chicago, Broadway in Chicago, EastVille Comedy Club (New York), Improv Comedy Club, B.B. King Blues Club (New York), Hornblower Cruises, Circus Vargas, and Broadway’s New World Stages, Booth Theatre and Cort Theatre. The number of partners is expected to grow as the day draws near.
“Whether its theater, concerts, sports, dance, or comedy, we believe there is no better way to finally spend some relaxing time together over the holidays,” says Jim McCarthy, co-founder of Show Day and CEO of Goldstar. “We know that a lot of families already go to a show on that day. We’re just making it official and encouraging many more people to start the tradition.”
