Irvine, CA, December 11, 2015 --(PR.com)-- FB Publishing has released the debut novel of Katherine Russell, a Buffalo, NY writer who takes a critical look at cultural interaction through the “white savior” archetype. Set in East Pakistan, what is now Bangladesh, this neocolonial novel begins as tensions between East and West Pakistan culminate, at the brink of the revolution. Without Shame is now available for purchase in all bookstores in paperback or ebook format.
"Without Shame" is a love story at its core – but not in the traditional sense. It’s about love of one’s country, culture, God, and language. It’s about the power of identity to shine through when other forces threaten to overshadow it.
In 1968 East Pakistan, in a village called Madhukhali, shame is a virtue Sariyah never mastered. She yearns to join a movement with her fellow Bengalis, who are gripping onto their language and cultural identity against neocolonial powers – but she is continuously sucked into the narrow visions of her father. Enter Rodney Creed, who bursts into this world with the overconfidence and naïveté of a college graduate, too eager to sense the rumbling ground beneath him – until he meets Sariyah. Rodney believes he is there to teach, but he will learn painful, irreversible things.
"Without Shame" is available for purchase everywhere books are sold. For book excerpts, author events and much more, please visit www.katherinekeepswriting.com or www.facebook.com/authorKatherineRussell.
Advance Praise for "Without Shame"
“A harrowing tale of love, family honor, and tradition, 'Without Shame' will leave you at the edge of your seat, wanting more and more with the turn of each page. It's rare to find a book about East Pakistan era-Bangladesh that truly moves me both historically and culturally. I experienced a whirlwind of emotions reading the rest of the story.” - Brown Girl Magazine
“'Without Shame' is charming, witty and has a powerful message. This book will engage you on all levels and knock the wind out of you when you least expect it!” - SISTERS Magazine
