Knitters Throughout Oklahoma Come Together to Landscape 108 Contemporary Art Gallery Unbearable Absence of Landscape
Tulsa, OK, December 14, 2015 --(PR.com)-- 108|Contemporary installed largest statewide knit bombing.

108|Contemporary, a non-profit arts organization with a beautiful gallery space in Tulsa’s downtown Brady Arts District, has recently completed a statewide large-scale yarn bomb community arts project. The project is titled the unbearable absence of landscapes. The idea was to blanket the entire façade of the 108|Contemporary art gallery with a hand knit blanket made up of thousands of individual squares from contributing knitters around the state of Oklahoma. Green squares were used to make up the land along the bottom; blue, white, and grey squares were used to make up the sky. This giant knit bombing project was installed in mid-November and will remain up through January 2016. The goals of this project have been to unify the community for a common cause, serve outreach groups, spread the craft of knitting, and draw attention to the programs at 108|Contemporary.

Hundreds of people worked together to make this possible. Women, men, adults, teens, and children contributed time, talent, and yarn to the undertaking. Lead artist, Romy Owens along with 108|Contemporary staff and volunteers traveled around the state starting in February, meeting with existing knitting groups, establishing new knitting groups, teaching knitting, learning knitting, talking about the project as well as talking about many, many other things. The project has been nothing short of inspiring. Lead artist, Romy Owens says “I have laughed a lot; I have been moved to tears. It’s been a remarkably significant part of my life and I am humbled to be part of this project.”
